A scholarship for Maynooth University students studying law, education, or music has been set up in honour of one of the university’s former law students.
The Ivan Mulligan Memorial Scholarship has been established by his sisters, Andrea and Denise.
The scholarship is worth €5,000 and will be awarded to students who have demonstrated academic achievement, resilience, and a commitment to making a difference in their future careers.
The award aims to help remove financial barriers and supports students in achieving their educational and career ambitions.
Ivan Mulligan died in 2023, and his sisters say that some of his happiest times were spent studying for his LLM at Maynooth, after having previously completed his BCL(Hons) at UCD.
In 2014, his thesis ‘Applications of Neuroscience to Criminal Law and Criminal Justice: A Critical Analysis of Risks and Potential Developments’ was published in the Irish Criminal Law Journal and can still be found in Maynooth’s library.
Applications for the scholarship open on 11 November and run until 29 November. More details are available from maynooth.foundation@mu.ie.
Applicants must be a final-year undergraduate student in the School of Law and Criminology, Department of Music, or Froebel Department of Primary and Early Childhood Education, or a penultimate-year undergraduate student in the Department of Education who intends to progress to the Professional Master of Education at Maynooth University.
