Law Society Library – a solicitor superpower

Solicitors nationwide have been speaking about the value of the Law Society Library in carrying out their work

The library is described as a ‘real superpower’ that reveals itself at a moment when the clock is ticking, the query is complex, and the answer feels just out of reach.

The Law Society Library has been quietly supporting the profession since 1841.

Physical books still line the shelves like trusted reference points, and with the DX courier service, up to five books can be delivered to solicitor desks, within hours, for just €5.

But it’s the digital offering where the service really comes into its own:

  • 328 eBooks available at a click,
  • Access through the library team to leading databases including LexisNexis and Westlaw,
  • A bank of precedent documents — with 463 supplied in 2025,
  • 12 subject guides covering areas from AI to conveyancing and environmental law,
  • LawWatch, the fortnightly newsletter on judgments and case law.

For many solicitors, this is the difference between hours of searching and reaching clarity quickly.

Precision

In 2025, the team handled 6,033 queries, each answered with speed and precision.

New services are continually being introduced.

ProView, Thomson Reuters’ eBook platform, was added in November 2025, while Trending Legal Queries launched online in March, covering topics such as assisted decision-making, rights of residence and enduring powers of attorney.
