Enterprise Ireland supports Irish businesses on their journey to start, scale, and succeed in global export markets. They are seeking a Legal Advisor to support and work within the Corporate Governance Department, and particularly the legal team in the delivery of legal services as required. The team advises on all aspects of domestic and European commercial law as they impact on Enterprise Ireland.
Role purpose:
The Corporate Governance Department is headed by the Secretary to the Enterprise Ireland Board, who manages the Compliance, Legal and Company Secretarial functions of Enterprise Ireland and its Board of Directors and its sub-committees. The Corporate Governance Department works closely with Enterprise Ireland Senior Management and with each of the operational teams within Enterprise Ireland to support the Agency in achieving its strategic objectives.
The Legal Function within the Corporate Governance Department advises on all aspects of domestic and European commercial law as they impact on Enterprise Ireland. The Legal Advisor will support and work within the Corporate Governance Department, and particularly the legal team in the delivery of legal services as required. The successful candidate will be required to participate in, and contribute to, the development of the Legal Function within the Corporate Governance Department through driving enhanced service delivery across the agency.
Key deliverables:
- Preparation of memoranda of advice for the agency’s legal team.
- Preparation of grant agreements and procurement/supplier contracts.
- Conducting legal research in areas of law, such as company law, state aid law, contract law, procurement law, ERDF law, intellectual property law, environmental and net-zero law and ESG law, research, development, and innovation support law, and developing areas of law, such as, artificial intelligence and digital services.
- Providing legal advice, as appropriate, to all Divisions.
- Working collaboratively with, and in support of, the senior lawyers on the team to ensure smooth delivery of legal services to internal stakeholders in the Corporate Governance Department and more widely within the Agency.
- Support the legal team and the Corporate Governance Department with the management of the agency’s contracts with external legal service providers.
- Contribute to the development of the Legal Function in the Corporate Governance Department and the evolving delivery of its services, having regard to the Agency’s evolving delivery requirements and the adoption of new technologies
Functional competencies (key skills and knowledge)
- Candidates must be qualified lawyers admitted to practise in Ireland. The role may be particularly attractive to recently qualified lawyers or lawyers wishing to gain experience or develop skills in commercial law in a public sector organisation.
- Demonstrable experience in understanding and drafting contracts/legal agreements is essential.
- Demonstrable experience in undertaking research across complex areas of law is essential.
- Excellent planning, administration, and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage work time efficiently in line with strict deadlines are essential.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) together with proficiency in dealing with a wide range of issues and complex situations.
- Demonstrated evidence of skills and experience in handling and processing confidential and time sensitive data and information, demonstrating numeracy, accuracy, and attention to detail.
- Ability to effectively work in a team environment with a co-operative and flexible attitude.
- Willingness to take on other key projects assigned from time to time.
